Advanced Laboratory Technology

Did you know?

People with gum disease or untreated cavities should not undergo teeth whitening.

Dr. Swallow established his own dental ceramic laboratory in 1981. During the years he operated his lab, he worked with four ceramists, two of whom had placed first in their classes in the dental technology program at New Bedford, Massachusetts, Veterans Administration Hospital. At one point, he had three full-time ceramists on staff.

Dr. Swallow, who studied extensively alongside his technicians, has also received extensive training with John Hubbard, a world renowned ceramist and teacher, in the south of England. He believes the knowledge gained from being intimately involved with the laboratory aspects of dentistry is an integral part of what is required in order to perform the best prosthetic and implant treatment, which includes the planning and surgical phases of treatment.

While Dr. Swallow has discontinued his own dental ceramic laboratory, he maintains a close relationship with his best ceramist, who now operates his own laboratory nearby. Dr. Swallow firmly believes that using the very best laboratory and laboratory technology is a requirement. "Using less than the very best in our practice would be insanity," he believes. "It is where a good deal of the value is."
